The experimental field “La Cañada” is located northwest of the municipality of Zautla, Puebla. It occupies an area of 23 hectares distributed among agricultural lands, forests and recreational lands.

It is a space where agricultural experiments and research are carried out and where farmers from the communities of the municipality of Zautla are trained and educated. In addition, research work is carried out in collaboration with various universities in the country.

It has a laboratory for the analysis of soils, insects and plants, a seed bank, a greenhouse with irrigation system, a forest nursery, infrastructures for the management of water, soil and erosion control (water ponds, living barriers, ditches, contour lines, sand traps, filters and water tanks), as well as pigsties and a backyard garden that make up the biointensive unit BIU.
